Equipment:
24 Heart shaped/round cupcake cases (If you use ordinary cake cases you will need more as they are smaller.)
Piping bag with star shaped nozzle
Electric whisk

Preheat your oven to 180C (350F/Gas Mark 4)
Mix together the sugar and the butter with and electric mixer on a high speed for 2 minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.

Add the eggs one at a time beating each one in fully before adding the next.
Sift the flour into the bowl and fold in by hand with a wooden spoon or spatula.
Stir in the milk and vanilla essence.

Spoon equal amounts into all of your cases making sure that they are only half full, if you have more batter fill up some extra cases (It will depend on the size your cases.)
Bake for 15-20 minutes, check by inserting a skewer or sharp knife into the cakes, when it comes out clean the cakes are done.
Leave the cakes to cool, do not decorate until they are completely cooled.

Now the fun part!
Cut the domes off all of your cakes so they are flat for icing, (Mmmmm cake tops all for you.)

Mix all of your frosting ingredients in a bowl on a medium speed until creamy, if your frosting seems a little runny add more sugar to stiffen. If you were unable to get heart shaped cases then you will need to make two different colours of frosting, start by mixing all of you ingredients except the colouring together then split your mixture into two and colour one half with the food colouring remember to halve the measurement to 1/2 tsp.

Put your frosting into your piping bag and ice your cakes, we did ours in a spiral pattern but feel free to be creative. If you have heart shaped case then go on to the flake stage however if you don't and have iced your cakes with the plain frosting wash out you piping bag and fill with your pink frosting, with the bag carefully pipe a heart shape onto your cakes.

Take your flake and using a sharp knife cut into three at an angle to make a point.
Push your section of flake deep into your hearts and edge the entry with some red writing icing.

And your done! Ready to dress in your best 90's lycra outfit and stick your Buffy DVD in the player. Spuffy or Bangel?

For the twilight variant sprinkle edible glitter over the top of your cakes and look a bit moody.
